U.S states take on top big tech and Government officials in censorship case

The attorneys general of Louisiana and Missouri and other plaintiffs have asked a U.S. court in a recent motion to allow them to depose Dr Anthony Fauci who is President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, FBI special agent Elvis Chan, former White House press secretary Jen Psaki.

They also want to question five other officials, including Carol Crawford, chief of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Digital Media Branch.

While emails and other documents uncovered in the build up to this case have revealed what has been described as an “enormous and far-reaching” censorship enterprise, the discovery makes very clear that federal officials have frequently engaged in their most telling and communications with social media companies orally, not in writing.

Fauci, for instance, communicated in a long-shielded phone call with some scientists who went on to write a paper castigating others who were open to the theory that the COVID-19 virus came from a laboratory in Wuhan, China, where the first COVID-19 cases were detected.

The new filing also noted that Dr Anthony Fauci was also in touch with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, but the content of oral communications between the two “is yet to be revealed.

Fauci has not made any statements under oath about his communications with big tech firms like Facebook, despite the judge overseeing the case ordering the government to provide answers from Fauci to questions. #gm247news #news

Uganda orders 21-day Ebola lockdowns

Uganda’s authoritarian president Yoweri Museveni on Saturday announced a 21-day lockdown on the Mubende and Kassanda districts in central Uganda to control an Ebola outbreak.

Museveni said there have been 58 confirmed cases and 19 fatalities since the outbreak began on September 20. The lockdown prevents travel to or from Mubende and Kassanda, although cargo shipments are still permitted to pass through the affected districts.

Entertainment venues and houses of worship were closed, and a nighttime curfew was imposed.

The police have been instructed to arrest anyone who refuses to comply with isolation orders. News reports suggested Museveni ordered the lockdown because there has been at least one case of an infected person slipping out of the outbreak zone to seek treatment in another part of Uganda.

The man in question died while being treated at a hospital in the capital of Kampala. #gm247news #news
